Mt. Potosi — Spring Sport — Cuzcotopia Wall
Our second time at Potosi, and it couldn’t have been more different from the first. Last visit we froze, climbed once, and left. This time the wall sat in perfect shade while Vegas baked in the 90s. It turned into a milestone day — first sport leads and first sport follows for a few people in the group, all of it going smoothly and building confidence fast.
Approach
The approach is a bit of a hike, but it’s straightforward and well-marked. It takes about 30-45 minutes to reach the wall from the parking area, with some moderate elevation gain.
Routes
The sport routes on Cuzcotopia Wall are varied and fun, with something for everyone. We kicked off the climbing with leading 'Jaguars, No Kidding'(5.8) and 'Third Cousin Twice Removed' (5.9+), which were perfect for warming up and getting a feel for the rock. The routes are well-bolted, and the quality of the climbing is consistently good across the wall. Finished off the day with 'Junior Chipmunk'(5.7) and 'Think He Would have Turned Out Better'(5.9).
Conditions
Late March — perfect spring weather with temperatures in the high 60s and full shade on the wall. Ideal for sport climbing without the heat of summer.
