Anza Borrego — Desert Trad Day - Lowenbrau Pinnacle

Anza Borrego, CAMarch 4, 2026

We headed out to Lowenbrau Pinnacle on a whim and it turned into one of those days that sticks with you.

Approach

Straightforward and easy to follow, dropping us right into the formations without much effort.

Routes

The climbing kept us on our toes — grades felt a little inconsistent, with a 5.9 sport route giving us more trouble than a 5.10b trad line we moved through cleanly. Some sections of rock felt a bit fragile, and we could hear it shifting under load, so we took time to clean what we could as we went.

One of the standout climbs took us underneath a massive boulder and out the other side; a unique, almost tunnel-like trad line that felt completely different from anything else we climbed that day. It was fun, a little strange, and exactly the kind of movement that makes a place memorable.

Protection & Gear

Standard trad rack. Some rock felt fragile under load — worth testing placements carefully and cleaning as you go. Most lines were a mixture of bolts and trad, so a few quick draws and a standard rack had us covered.

Conditions

Early March — warm desert temps, full sun exposure. Best as a winter or early spring destination before the heat sets in.
